Spine Infection Surgery
Advanced surgical treatment for spine infections including tuberculosis and bacterial infections
Overview
We provide advanced surgical treatment for spine infections, including tuberculosis (TB spine) and other bacterial infections of the spine. Surgery is offered when there is nerve compression, spinal instability, abscess formation, deformity, or failure of medical treatment. The goal of surgery is to relieve pain, protect nerves, restore stability, and help patients return to normal function, while working closely with medical treatment.
When is Surgery Needed?
- Nerve compression causing weakness or numbness
- Spinal instability due to bone destruction
- Large abscess formation not responding to antibiotics
- Progressive spinal deformity (kyphosis)
- Failure of medical treatment alone
- Severe, uncontrolled pain
Treatment Options
- Removal of infected tissue and pus (abscess drainage)
- Decompression of nerves and spinal cord
- Stabilization and fusion of the spine when required
- Correction of deformity caused by infection
- Minimally invasive surgery in selected cases
- Coordination with prolonged antibiotic therapy
Recovery & Prognosis
Recovery varies depending on the extent of infection and surgery performed. Hospital stay is typically 5-10 days. Most patients require 6-12 months of antibiotic treatment along with surgical recovery. Complete healing and return to normal activities may take 6-18 months with proper rehabilitation and medical management.
